What is Geospatial Society of Kenya?

The Society, or “GeoSK” in short, is a not-for-profit public-benefit professional organization established to support the needs of the geospatial community practicing in Kenya. The Society will serve the needs of the members and public in the key areas of the geospatial industry namely, capacity building, education and research, professional standardization, networking, and events organization, and more. Once fully established, the Society will be dedicated to the advancement and/or dissemination of information relating to all aspects of the GEOSPATIAL INFORMATION & TECHNOLOGY AND ITS APPLICATIONS.

Is Geospatial Society of Kenya a replacement for or competing with any other body ?
No!. Geospatial Society of Kenya is founded on the principles of cooperation with other bodies (present and future) in enhancement of the geospatial industry. We have a vision to the best professional body for all the geospatial professions by providing capacity building opportunities, networking opportunities, industry standardization and a sense of belonging to all cadres of potential members which include professional, companies, institutions/organization and in a special way students (present and future).

Geospatial Society of Kenya seeks to build a close cooperation with other bodies operating in the geospatial industry and outside in any way to make the geospatial industry admirable. We seek to work together with the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya, Geological Society of Kenya and any other present or future body in a way that will be beneficial to the public and especially our members.

What is the legal status of the Society?
The Society is registered in Kenya under the Societies Rules 1968 by the Registrar of Societies. The Society is a membership based public benefit body working to serve the needs of it’s members and the public.
Who are the Society's member?
The membership of the Society is composed from geospatial professional and students of the various geospatial professions, Geomaticists, classical Surveyors, Geospatial Specialists, Geospatial Software developers, GIS Enthusiasts and Hobbyists,  GIS users. Becoming a member is as easy as registering and contributing to the Society’s  activities.
Does the Society accept student members?
Yes. Student community is a key part of the Society. We have created a special category for students and provided an affordable entry and subscription fees.Head over to the membership page to checkout student rates.The Society is currently developing a robust vision for value addition into education and research in our institutions that will transform career development for geospatial students.
